I thought this would be a good question to ask because I heard a few different battles being the longest and wanted to clarify what was really the longest.
www.ussslater.org
This site explains a lot on the longest battle of World War II which is the Battle of the Atlantic. This battle lasted through the whole war which was from 1939 to 1945. It tells you about almost everything there is to know about the Battle of the Atlantic including the casualties, ships lost and so on. This site also is a credible site because of the working hyperlinks, the way to contact the author, and because its a .org.
en.wikipedia.org
This is a nice credible site because of the .org, the abundance of working hyperlinks, and recent update. This site also says a lot about the Battle of the Pacific and has a lot of hyperlinks to war definitions and such to help under stand the reading.

This site is really credible because it has a very recent up to date, with working hyperlinks, as well as a way to contact them.
Conclusion
All three sites said the same battle, the battle of the Atlantic. The Battle of the Atlantic was the longest battle of World War II because it lasted the whole time, 1939 all the way to the end,1945. A lot of ships were lost in this battle as well as a lot of people, "Historians estimate that more than 100 convoy battles took place during the war. They cost the Merchant Navy more than 30,000 men, and around 3,000 ships. The equally terrible cost for the Germans was 783 U-boats, and 28,000 sailors" (Website 3).
